Our methodology

Editorial Review Policy

Last reviewed: May 2026

This page explains how we select operators for comparison, how we form our editorial scores, and what principles guide our review process. We publish this because we believe transparency about methodology is essential for a comparison site to be genuinely useful.

Our editorial principles

All content on this site is produced independently. Operators cannot pay to be included, pay to improve their score, or pay to have negative content removed. We earn revenue through affiliate commission on outbound links, but this income is separate from our editorial judgements — see our Affiliate Disclosure for how that works.

Our scores are editorial estimates based on publicly available information. They are not certified audits, regulatory assessments, or independent test results. They represent our own informed assessments at the time of review.

Selection criteria

We only list operators that meet the following baseline requirements:

  • Holds an active, valid licence from the UK Gambling Commission
  • Operates a UK-facing site accessible to UK residents
  • Has responsible gambling tools accessible to users

Operators subject to active regulatory investigation or whose licences have been suspended are not listed.

Assessment criteria

UK Gambling Commission licence

Eligibility requirement

Only operators holding a valid, active UKGC licence are considered for inclusion. Licence status is checked at the time of review. This is a binary criterion — unlicensed operators are excluded regardless of other factors.

Responsible gambling tools

High weighting

We assess how visible and accessible deposit limits, session limits, cool-off tools, and self-exclusion options are. Operators where these tools are difficult to find are scored lower.

Terms clarity

High weighting

We note how clearly wagering requirements, eligibility conditions, and bonus terms are presented. Operators with vague, buried, or excessively complex terms receive a lower score in this area.

Site usability

Medium weighting

We assess how easy the site is to navigate on desktop and mobile. Navigation structure, account access, and the clarity of information available are all considered.

Mobile experience

Medium weighting

We check whether the site operates effectively on mobile devices, either through a responsive web interface or a dedicated mobile application.

Payment options

Medium weighting

We note the availability of payment methods, including debit card support (required by UKGC regulation), e-wallets, and bank transfers. We do not assess actual transaction speeds, as these vary.

Game variety

Lower weighting

We note the breadth of game types and providers available. We do not audit individual game RTPs or game fairness — those are assessed by regulators and independent testing laboratories.

Scoring

Operators are scored on a 0–10 editorial scale. Scores reflect our assessment across the criteria above. Not every operator will score highly in every area, and we aim for a realistic spread of scores that reflect genuine differences between operators.

Scores are editorial estimates and should not be taken as official ratings or certifications. We encourage users to read the review notes for each operator and to check the operator's own terms directly before registering.

Review currency

We aim to review and update operator information periodically. However, casino operators change their products, terms, and features frequently. The most current and legally binding information will always be on the operator's own website.

Removal of operators

We may remove an operator from our comparison if their UKGC licence lapses or is suspended, if they cease to accept UK customers, or if we become aware of unresolved regulatory concerns that make their inclusion inappropriate. We do not remove operators solely because they choose to end an affiliate arrangement.

What we do not do

  • Fabricate user reviews or testimonials
  • Publish manufactured statistics or fake review counts
  • Accept payment to alter editorial scores or review content
  • Guarantee any outcome — gambling, financial, or otherwise
  • Claim that any operator is officially the best in any category
